Somersault May 2026 Newsletter - Love, Wedding Dresses, and SUMMER!

Come see how our recent races went, along with important reminders, and some big news about two of our Race Crew members, who recently got married, with a touch of Somersault.

Adam --

Happy SUMMER! It's finally here!

We hosted two Somersault races over the last 2 weeks and we hope that you had a chance to come participate, spectate, or volunteer - because they were both a blast.

We have more info below on how our recent races went, along with important reminders, and some big news about two of our Race Crew members, who recently got married, with a touch of Somersault.

Congrats to Stephanie and Jason - Race Crew members in love!

If you’ve been to a Somersault event over the past few years, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Stephanie Kourakis. She’s been part of our Race Crew for years and has taken on just about every role imaginable, from water safety to the finish line, becoming a familiar face across the series.

When Stephanie met her partner, Jason, it didn’t take long before he joined the Race Crew too.

This past weekend, Stephanie and Jason got married, surrounded by family, friends, and even a few Somersault tents. The wedding took place in the backyard of Stephanie’s brother, Adam Kourakis (Somersault's Race Director), making the celebration feel even more personal and special.

Congratulations to the happy couple as they start this new chapter together! We’re so excited for them, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for that wedding dress at the Wedding Dress Dash this October.

Wedding Dress Dash?

If you haven't picked up on it yet, Somersault is "playful, yet professional".

Our leading example of that is our annual Wedding Dress Dash, where everyone is welcome to run a 1K loop at the Fall Colours Run, in a wedding dress.

We host the race because the Fall Colours Run falls on the wedding anniversary of our two Race Directors, Adam and Elizabeth. Since they have to work on their anniversary every year, we figured that we would bring the party to them!

For the past 4 years, Adam has raced in Elizabeth's dress, along side 15+ other brave runners. Stephanie has raced every year as well, wearing her mother's wedding dress.

Want to get in on the fun? After taxes and fees, the race is only 13$, and you'll have the best race photos that you could ever ask for.

Summer Events are Here!

The Flower Fun Run and Early Bird Triathlon were an amazing kick-off to the 2026 summer events!

Both events sold out and reached record capacities. Thanks to some extra pool time this year, we were able to grow Early Bird and welcome even more athletes to the start line.

We had great weather, huge smiles, and an incredible atmosphere at both events.

We went all-out with the perks at Early Bird, giving participants:

• Post-race chiro, physio, and massage from Movement Co
• Additional massage services from Trios College
• Coffee and alcoholic drinks from The Thirst Responder
• A new on-site food vendor: Garvin’s BBQ
• Podium pins for the top 3 in every 5-year age group and gender
• Awesome finish line food, including local favourite Riverside Pizza

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this the biggest Early Bird in history.

If this sounds like your idea of a fun time, check out our upcoming events. We can’t wait for the rest of the season!

SuperKids Tri is only 4 weeks away!

Up next is a new event for 2027, SuperKids Tri. It's a triathlon for athletes under the age of 13.

They swim in a pool, then bike & run on a closed course. The entire event was planned in a way that makes it a perfect introduction to the sport. We've designed a closed course route that's incredibly safe, while still being fun, and spectator friendly.

If you know of anyone under the age of 13 who's curious about triathlon, or already enjoys the sport, please help us spread the word! The event is already 70% sold out, but if our pilot event is a success, it'll help us launch more events like these.

In Case You Missed It:

Here are some reminders about recent updates.

  • We're looking for one more paddler to join our water safety team. Email Adam@Somersault.ca if you enjoy getting paid to paddle, and making a difference for local athletes.

  • Want to get involved without doing the race? Come volunteer! You'll get a front row seat to the action, and get to help make everyone's race day special. We have spots available for our SuperKids Tri and the Meech Lake Triathlon.

  • Did you know that 7 of our 12 events have youth races? It's never been easier to get a young person started in triathlon.

  • Last month, we celebrated International Banana Day. Come see how many bananas we served in 2025.
