Wed, Jun 01, 2022Britannia Park Pre Race Newsletter

Our Britannia Park Event is only a few days away and we wanted to send some final reminders.

Spots still available:

Our last 2 events sold out and some people weren't able to sign up. If you have any friends or family that want to join you at this event, it's not too late! Have them sign up asap at Somersault.ca

Orientation

Coach Todd from the Ottawa Triathlon Club is doing an in-person orientation at the Ron Kolbus Centre on Friday. The course walk through will start at 5pm but he'll be there at 3:30pm to answer any other questions that you might have. Feel free to come by, pick up your bib and get prepped for Saturday. The orientation will be where the transition zone will be on Saturday.

Park Offsite:

You can park at Britannia Park but the parking is limited. If possible, bike over to the event, carpool, or park off-site. There's lots of neighborhood parking around!

Timing:

We recommend showing up an hour before the race, to get your bib, set up transition, and make your way to the start line.

Bib Pick up:

We highly recommend picking up your race bib on Friday, from 3pm to 6pm. We'll be set up outdoors at the Ron Kolbus Centre, at Britannia Park.

We'll be at this same location on Race Day but picking up your bib on Friday lets you scope everything out for Saturday AND gives you less to do on race day.

The race starts are:8:50am: Duathlons 9:00am: Try a Tri and Sprint Triathlon9:30am: Olympic Triathlon and SwimCycle

Show up on site and hour before the race, so that you can get set up, warm up and make your way to the start line.

Know Your Distances:

Each event has loops. It's important that you know how many loops you need to do on the swim, the bike, and the run. We will have volunteers, cones, signs, and barriers to make the course as clear as possible but it's important that each athlete know the course ahead of time.

The swim course has loops of 750m and 100m, which means:-Try a Tri: 1 loop of 100m -Sprint Tri: 1 loop of 750m-Olympic Tri: 2 loops of 750m

The bike course loops are 10K each, which means:-Try a Tri: 1 loop-Sprint Tri/Du: 2 loops-Olympic Tri/Du/SwimCycle: 4 loops

The run is a 2.5K loop (1.25K out, 1.25K back), which means:-Try a Tri: 1 loop (2.5K) -Sprint Tri/Du: 2 loops (5K) -Olympic Tri/Du/SwimCycle: 4 loops (10K)
