Two New Iron distance Records at the 2006 Canadian Triathlon & Duathlon
That's right, we have two new record holders in the Iron Distance event at The Canadian. Eric Deshaies of Gatineau Quebec led the first 5 male finishers under the record set last year by Yves Fortin. He finished with an impressive time of 9:24:43 and was followed closely by Alain Charlebois also of Gatineau in 9:34:19.
On the women's side of things, Kanata's Joanne Murray broke Caroline Boiselle's year old mark of 10:49:39 with her winning time of 10:42:13.
One of the most impressive performances of the day was turned in by George Reid of Ottawa, who shattered both the 40 and over and 50 and over records, with his amazing time of 9:58:26.
The winners of the Half iron Tri were Augy Marmello of Toronto in 4:23:09 and Margie Bailey of Ottawa in 4:47:13, both well off the course records for the event.
The 2006 version of The Canadian featured 1000 triathletes and duathletes competing in 8 different events - the largest tri/du in Eastern Canada. One of the newest features of the event was the introduction of the Half Iron AquaBike in which participants swam 2000m and cycled 90Km. This event is growing in popularity as many older runners are experiencing leg problems that make running more difficult.
