A Busy Month of June
June featured the ecole Jeanne Sauvé Run for Fun, the Ottawa Riverkeeper, Britannia Beach Run, Emilie’s Run, Smiths Falls Classic, the Figure Eight Run, and Sunset Series #1. Participation has been up significantly from 2007.

Although the Weatherman predicted rain and thundershowers for al the events, we escaped with just a little bit of short term drizzle, which definitely made everyone’ seven experience a better one.

Super Sprint and Try A Tri Run Distances
In our continuing effort to offer the kind of events that participants want, we have made some modifications to our short distance triathlons – the Super Sprint, and the Try a Tri. These modifications affect the distance of the runs in these events, and are an attempt to please those who want shorter, and those who want longer runs.

For the remainder of 2008, Super Sprint run distance will be 5Km, and Try A tri run distances will be 3Km (except for Thousand Islands which will remain at 2.3Km). We will evaluate things at year end to see if these changes are appreciated or not.

Champions Challenge
We know there are many of you itching to see the Champions Challenge Rankings, which have yet to appear. Good news! BY Monday June 30, they will appear on our web site at http://www.somersault.ca/championships.htm.

These ranking will appear this year courtesy of Sportstats, who are filling in for our own statistician, Adam McKinty, who has been struggling with health and business challenges. We want to thank Adam for the great work he did in 2006 setting up and managing the CC Rankings. We wish him all the best and want him back next year.

Sunset Series for Youth
http://www.somersault.ca/bytowntriathlon.htm
Somersault is a proud supporter of the Bytown Storm Sunset Series.

What a great experience we had last night at the inaugural Bytown Storm Sunset Series Event #1 - for kids and youth. This new concept is especially great for kids from 9 years to teens – who have never done a triathlon before. It is a super new format that let’s young people come out on Wednesday nights to swim, and/or bike, and/or run, at any of three different distances. It is sort of like a triathlon, but there is time in between to ask questions and receive advice and encouragement from coach Greg Kealey and others.

Our son Michael (10 years, 5’5”.amd 135 lbs. completed the first 100m swim of his life, biked a 5Km race for the first time, and toughed it out through the run, to complete his first “triathlon” – and he wants to come back on July 9th to try it again.

I urge you to bring your young ones out to try this friendly low key time trial type format. It is a great introduction to the sport. You won’t be disappointed.

Check it out at http://www.bytowntriathlon.com/Sunset_Series.html.

Thanks
There are way too many people and organizations to thank for their contributions in June, but we want to mention just some of them and apologize in advance to those we may miss this time. Somersault events are productions for which many are responsible and for their contributions, we are very grateful.
