Ottawa’s 5K for Women
Somersault Promotions announces that the Ottawa’s 5K for women is shaping up to be an exhibit of Canada’s talented and successful female athletes. The race features a competitive edge with seven elite athletes participating in this celebration of women and sport with cash prizes will be awarded to top athletes. However, the event is not solely for the elite and competitive woman, Somersault and race director Ken Parker encourage women of all ages and abilities to run or walk the course. There is a stroller category that accommodates new moms who are interested in being a part of the event.
Among Canada’s elites to participate in the event are:
Emile Mondor is a Canadian Olympian who will display her abilities with a guarantee that she will finish the race in under 16:00.
Shari Boyle of Toronto was the winner of the 2005 Canadian Running Series Championships. She has a personal best of 16:51 for 5K.
Colleen Hopkins of Toronto was second in the Masters Division of the 2005 Canadian Running Series. She has a personal best time of 17:06 for 5K.
Sarah Dillabaugh of Greely a member of the Ottawa Lions Track Club. She has a personal best time of 16:21 for 5K.
Nicole Stevenson of Toronto is a member of the Newmarket Huskies Track Club. She has a 16:06 PB for 5K and is ranked Canada’s second in marathon running. Nicole competed in this year's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
Leslie Gold of Montreal is a member of the Vainqueurs Club and is sponsored by Reebok Canada. She has a current year PB of 17:36 for 5K.
Liz Maguire of Osgoode is a member of the Ottawa Athletic Club Racing Team. She has a personal best time of 17:46 for 5K set in 2005.
Each of these exceptional women will challenge themselves and one another as well as motivate other women to strive to achieve their personal goals.
In addition to cash prizes for the top three finishers there will be cash awards for the top three 40+ age category and the leader at the 1K, 2K, 3K and 4K will receive an additional $100, PROVIDING they finish the race under 20:00.
An additional $250.00 will be added as a bonus if the race winner finishes under 16:00.
The Women’s only race presents:
- A stroller category
- 5 minute post-race massages for a $5 donation to the Ottawa food bank
- Opportunity for friends and family of participants to volunteer. Volunteers may contact us at info@somersault.ca
The event will start at the Aviation museum at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday June 24, 2006. Awards will be presented immediately following the race at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Smiths Falls Classic
The Annual Smiths Falls Classic Triathlon and Relay Sprint Duathlon will celebrate its 27th year on Sunday June 25, 2006. With over 550 participants registered the event promises to be a community highlight.
The racecourse takes participants on a figure-eight tour of Smiths Falls through paths and parks, town center and over bridges before finishing at the scenic Rideau River where all participant swill receive a medal upon crossing the finish line.
Somersault encourages youth to participate in this community event and invites them to join the first wave of the Classic Triathlon.
There will be an Ottawa Race kit pick up for this event at he Aviation Museum on Saturday June 24, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Smiths Falls kit pick up on Saturday June 24 from 3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Harbour Room Comfort Inn, 33 Centre St. A final Race pick up and late registration will also be at the Comfort Inn from 7:00 a.m. –8:30 a.m.
Riverkeeper Success
Somersault Promotions proudly announces that the 2nd annual Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon proved to be an outstanding success. Over 550 athletes, including 41 relay teams participated in the event. Proceeds from the event are donated to the Ottawa River Keeper
Somersault would like to extend sincere congratulations to all participants and a special thank you to Bridgewater Systems who was the official sponsor of the Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon Team Challenge. Bridgewater provided generous support for the event through a sponsorship contribution, the participation of teams in the canoe relay and through the volunteer efforts of several employees.
We are pleased, to contribute to the Ottawa Riverkeeper and we hope to continue to build the event for the benefit of both the participants and Ottawa Riverkeeper and its mandate to protect the river on which we host the event. |
