Hi Everyone!
We hope you are as excited as we are for the 2013 spring, summer, fall event season. Somersault is back with all of its former events plus some new ones we have added; the recently held 1st annual Festival des Sucres Run, and the return of the Last Chance Triathlon/Duathlon/ Nepean Trail Run. We hope to add a couple more new events this year. If we do, we will tell you about them in our May Newsletter. You can check the current event line up at http://www.somersault.ca/calendar_2013.pdf.
Remember we are always open to new participation event ideas, so please don’t be shy about suggesting things.
A Change in the Newsletter Delivery – We now use MailChimp!
We are now using Mail chimp as our online Newsletter distribution service. The good news is that you can now unsubscribe automatically. The bad news is that if you have already unsubscribed from the Newsletter in the past, you may have to unsubscribe again – as we were unable to transfer former unsubscribers to the new system. Please accept our apologies for this – and use the new automatic ‘Unsubscribe feature if you wish to ‘Unsubscribe’. We see this as a step towards a more streamlined, albeit less personal, means of communicating Somersault news.

The triathlon may fill up sooner!
Early Bird Triathlon Participant Update – Triathlon nearing its limit
As of the date of this newsletter, we can only accept a limited number of new entries in the triathlon portion of the Early Bird. Unfortunately, we must limit entries in the triathlons, due to the amount of pool time we have been able to secure.
Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlons – We have room for 50 more entries
Try A Tri and Super Sprint – We have room for 60 more entries
Remember entry is first come, first served, (for triathletes) to fill in the openings that are left. When we hit our limit, we will have to close off entry. You can enter now at somersault.ca/eventearlybird.htm. There will be no further warning when we reach the limit.
We will NOT close off entries to the Early Bird Duathlon, or the Colonel By Classis Run, as we do not have a ‘cap’ on those events.
Wylie Ryan Kids’ Spring Half Marathon
If you know of a youngster aged 6-11, you may wish to consider enrolling them in the Wylie Ryan Kids’ Spring Half Marathon program – which culminates at the Day Before Mothers Day Wylie Ryan 1Km event on May 11. Check it out at somersault.ca/kidshalfmarathonprogram.htm. It’s really not a half marathon, but a series of shorter training runs that add up to a half marathon distance (21KM).
Festival des Sucres Run Report
Our first Festival des Sucres Run, was a success on March 24th, with almost 200 participants enjoying the run, the new course, and the Festival des Sucres. Things worked out really well, and planning has already begun for 2014. Results, photos, and certificates can be viewed at somersault.ca/results.htm. Congratulations to all who participated on one of the most idyllic courses in Ottawa!
A Change On the Somersault Web Site - The planned ‘All In 5Km’ is now part of the ‘Day Before Mothers Day Run’ on May 11
The ‘All In 5Km’ being organized in partnership with Para Promotions of Ottawa, is now part of the ‘Day Before Mothers Day Run’ on May 11. The web sites have been revised to reflect this change. Be sure to check out the ‘Day Before Mothers Day Run’ at somersault.ca/eventmothersdayruns.htm, as we have had to change the Race Pick Up site for this event. If you have entered the ‘All In 5Km’ on May 5, but are unable to attend on the new date (May 11), please contact terry@somersault.ca and request your full refund. Based on registration to date, we anticipate a ‘full house at the May 11 event.
A Second Change – Sports 4 Emilie's Run – Has an Earlier Start Time than advertised – It’s now 8:00 a.m. on June 22 (not 9:00 a.m.)
We are unable to host the annual Sports 4 Emilie’s Run at it’s normal start time of 9:00 a.m. this year, due to a major new interactive exhibit being hosted at the Aviation & Space Museum. The start of the 5Km has been moved up to 8:00 a.m. to avoid a conflict. Race Kit Pick Up and late entry on race morning has likewise been moved to one hour earlier from 6:00 – 7:30 a.m., and the Wylie Ryan Kid’s 1Km will be held at 9:00 a.m. instead of 10:00 a.m. Please make note of these time changes, and check the event web site for the changes (somersault.ca/eventemiliesrun.htm) . We anticipate returning to the regular start time in 2014.
A Third Change – Day Before Mothers Day Change of Location
Yep, another one. Due to a travelling Star Wars exhibit, the Aviation Museum has indicated to us, that they cannot honour our annual date for the event, so we have switched locations. The event will be held (Registration only) at Henry Munro Middle School at 2105 Kender Dr. Check out the event web site for details (Run - somersault.ca/eventmothersdayruns.htm) (Duathlon - somersault.ca/eventmothersdaydu.htm). The good news is we are still on the Rockcliffe Parkway for the event.
And A Fourth Change – Sports 4 Emilie’s Run – Change in the School Competition
Yep, a fourth one! The Elementary School and Secondary School Cash Prize competition at Emilie’s Run has been changed due to our focus on everyone of every speed, not just the fast ones. The Cash Prizes are now to be awarded to the largest (in terms of participants) teams at both levels, rather than the fastest teams. We hope this change encourages all children and youth to participate. We are also very pleased to welcome Girls on the Run as the Club of the Event.-.Girls on the Run has just opened an Ottawa chapter, which you can learn more about at the Sports 4 Emilie’s Run. The Sports 4 Emilie’s Run also welcomes Melanie Trumpower and her Girls Running Challenge at Carine Wilson S.S.
Somersault Souvenir Shirt Sizes
We have made a change to our souvenir shirt sizing chart recently. Please check sizing at somersault.ca/shirtsizingchart.pdf. If you have already entered an event or events, you should check to be sure you have ordered a size that fits, If you wish to change size, email terry@somersault.ca, give us the size you wish to change to, and the event you are entered in, and we will make the change. We know you will like the new look.
‘Girls on the Run’ Joins Us at Emilie’s Run
We are very pleased to be working with ‘Girls on the Run’, who have decided to make Emilie’s Run for Women Only, one of their Ottawa program’s events – and become our ‘Club of the Event’.. Go to girlsontherun.ca/ to learn more about this youth program, which recently opened an Ottawa branch. The Ottawa group is led by 8 mentors, and has more than 40 young women running as part of their “It’s Good to be Me” approach to helping girls build self esteem and self efficacy.
