Lower Reach Park , Smiths Falls, Ontario

We thought it would be a good idea to add a Kids' race to the event mix at Smiths Falls Classic Triathlon, and Figure Eight 5Km Run - so the whole community can participate in the event. With the support of our great Race Director, Wendy Hillier, and the RedHawks Athletic Department, we are launching the first annual Wylie Ryan Smiths Falls 2Km Run - for kids 11 and under.

The run (which is actually 2.2Km) takes place beside the Rideau Canal and loops through Lower Reach Park on a safe traffic free trail. The kids will head out on their run at 9:30 a.m. following the adult duathlon participants.

Parents and older siblings can jog a long with the kids for free, so kids from 1 year of age (in strollers) all the way up to the 11 year olds can join in.

Remember, everyone gets a timing chip, a souvenir shirt, a finish medal, something to eat and a chance at draw prizes. So come on out and join the fun.

There are no refunds for any reason - this includes event cancellation or event changes. Credit cards are accepted for online entries only, up to Sunday June 13th.  All entries received after Sunday June 13th are $10 (Cash Only), and must be made at a Race Kit Pick Up time and location.

Souvenir shirts are included with your entry (up to Sunday June 13th). Entries received after Sunday June 13th are not eligible for the souvenir shirt.

awards and prizes
All participants receive a souvenir shirt, a finisher's medal, refreshments, and a chance at lots of draw prizes. We do not provide awards for placing in the top 3 overall or in each age division, as we believe that winning is its own reward.

official performance certificate
We are pleased to offer each race finisher, the opportunity to download and print an official certificate of their event performance. That's right, after each event you will be able go online to the event web site, punch in your race number and obtain a certificate that highlights your race, finish time and place in the race.

We are also pleased to be able to offer a photo program for participants in the Wylie Ryan Smiths Falls 2Km Run.  Zoomphoto will be offering you classy photos commemorating your participation.  Just go to http://www.somersault.ca/results.htm the day after the event for your photo

souvenir shirt
A souvenir shirt is included in the entry fee, if you enter on or by June 13th. Those entering after Sunday June 13th are not eligible to purchase the souvenir shirt. You are not eligible for the souvenir shirt if you do not pick up your participant race kit.

refreshments
Enjoy some fruit, a bagel and a drink after the run.

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races. This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on their ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows the kids to be timed. 

The kids are responsible for obtaining their ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before their race - you will need their race number to obtain the chip. 

The ChampionChip Bracelet must be returned immediately after the kids cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the bracelet cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

results (age of december 31, 2010)
The kids personal results will be posted very soon after they finish the race.  Please check the results as soon as you can, to be sure they are accurate.  If  there are discrepancies, go to the Sportstats Van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct. 

Remember we use the participant's age at December 31, 2010 - not their race day age - for result purposes.

Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/resultsrun.htm within 24 hours of the race and are available at RunnersWeb.com

directions and parking
Smiths Falls is on Hwy. 43 between Ottawa and Kingston - check the MapQuest Map at www.somersault.ca. Race Kit Pick is at the Comfort Inn (formerly the Mariner's Inn) at 33 Centre St., Smiths Falls.  Parking is located directly behind the hotel - or where it is legal to park nearer the race site.  If you have already picked up your race kit, you may wish to park in the Lower Reach Park area.

start location and toilets
There is a 500 metre walk from the parking lot at the Comfort Inn to the event site - Transition Zone and Finish Line.  The T-Zone is located on River St. beside the Rideau River adjacent to Elm St. E. and Oak St. 

Washrooms are located at the Comfort Inn and at the race site.  There will be 6 portable toilets located ion the event site, but you may want to avoid the line ups and go at the hotel!

volunteers
A parent or adult supervisor must accompany all participants.  One adult may accompany several participants. You may be asked to assist at the event.

The Wylie Ryan Smiths Falls 2Km Run is also a great opportunity for schools or clubs to raise some money by volunteering. It is a fun way to pick up a few hundred dollars. Email us at info@somersault.ca if your club/school/group would like us to make a donation in return for your providing 10 or more volunteers.
