The 4th Annual Wylie Ryan Dow's Lake 1Km Run, is a short safe run for kids, along Colonel By Drive. The run is part of the Wylie Ryan series of Runs, and Surf & Turf Events for kids 11 and under. The Wylie Ryan Dow's Lake 1Km is a fun way to introduce the kids to running/walking/jogging, and parents are invited to jog a long with them for free.

The Dow's Lake 1Km Run is part of a half day of triathlon, and running event activity at Carleton University. The run takes place at 11:45 a.m., after the triathlon and cycling activity is over.

We invite you to bring your 1 to 11 year olds out for some exercise, souvenir shirts, medals and draw prizes - strollers are allowed. If you can't make it to a weekend event, you may be interested in having a similar kids' event at your school.  Check out the RUN4FUN program below.

Teachers and parents may be interested in the elementary school RUN4FUN event program offered by run4funcanada - 2251389 Ontario Limited. This unique program is offered at your school, and is for all students in the school - Kindergarten up to Grade 8.

entry fee conditions
There are no refunds for any reason. Entry fees must be paid when submitting the entry. Entries received by Sunday May 15, are eligible for the souvenir shirt -  no exceptions. Entry fees paid on race day entries must be paid in cash, and can be made at Race Kit Pick Up times and places, and must be paid in cash.

how to get to carleton university
Carleton University is the race site. It is located on Bronson Ave. in Ottawa. We recommend that you use a Mapquest Map, the link to which is provided under "Maps" on our home page at www.somersault.ca. The parking lot is just to your right shortly after entering the grounds of the University from Bronson Ave.

coming from the east
For those coming from the East on the Queensway (Hwy 417), take the Bronson St. South Exit, and follow Bronson to Carleton University. You can also follow the Airport signs, as Bronson is the route to the Ottawa Airport.

coming from the west
For those coming from the West., take the Bronson St. South. Exit off the Queensway (417) and follow Bronson St. South to Carleton University. You can also follow the Airport signs, as Bronson is the route to the Ottawa Airport.

parking
Race day parking will be in Parking Lot #7 on the Carleton University campus.  Check the map below. If this lot is full, continue into the University and park in the first Lot on your left.

Entrance into the University and to the parking lot, will only be available from Bronson Ave. on race morning. The Colonel By Drive entrance to the University will be closed to motor vehicles for the race

The Race Kit Pick Up Tent is located in Parking Lot #6, adjacent to Parking Lot # 7.  It is a 300m walk to the Registration Tent from Parking Lot #7.

official performance certificate
We are pleased to offer each race finisher, the opportunity to download and print an official certificate of their event performance. That's right, after each event you will be able to go online at http://www.eventsonline.ca/fc/somersault.html, punch in your race number and obtain a certificate that highlights your race, finish time and place.

We are pleased to be able to offer a photo program for participants in the Wylie Ryan 1Km Run.  Zoomphoto will be offering you classy photos commemorating your participation.  Just go to http://www.somersault.ca/results.htm the day after the event for your photo.

souvenir shirt
Everyone who enters by Sunday May 15th, receives a souvenir shirt. Those entering after Sunday May 15th are not eligible for the souvenir shirt. If you do not pick up your race kit, you are not eligible for the souvenir shirt after the race.

championship timing - by sportstats
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races. This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on their ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows the kids to be timed. 

The kids are responsible for obtaining their ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before their race - you will need their race number to obtain the chip. 

The ChampionChip Bracelet must be returned immediately after the kids cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the bracelet cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

results (age as of december 31, 2012)
The kids personal results will be posted very soon after they finish the race.  Please check the results as soon as you can, to be sure they are accurate.  If  there are discrepancies, go to the Sportstats Van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct. 

Remember we use the participant's age at December 31, 2012 - not their race day age - for result purposes.

Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/resultsrun.htm within 24 hours of the race and are available at RunnersWeb.com.

volunteers
A parent or adult supervisor must accompany each participant during the run ( for free), and may be required to assist at the event.

The Wylie Ryan Dow's Lake 1KmRun is also a great opportunity for schools or clubs to raise some money by volunteering. It is a fun way to pick up a few hundred dollars.

Email us if you are interested in this opportunity, or if your club can provide 10 or more volunteers in return for a donation to the club.

newsletter updates
We will email 3 weekly Colonel By Classic/Dow' Lake Kids 1Km Run Newsletters to participants with the latest updates prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify changes, answer your questions, and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one. 

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
