We had a great time in 2009 with the Surf and Turf and hope you can make it out for a fun and fitness day for the kids at the 5th Annual Wylie Ryan National Capital Surf n Turf in 2010! The Wylie Ryan Kids' Surf and Turf is a 50m swim (you can wade if you prefer) plus a 500m run from the beach, through the park to the Finish Line.

It is great for kids up to 11 years of age. Best of all, kids and youth enter for just $10 and receive a souvenir shirt! Everyone gets post race refreshments, their name on their number, a medal at the finish line, and a chance at one of the many draw prizes.

Don't forget to bring Mom and Dad too, because you need a parent or guardian with you to enter!

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races. This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on their ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows the kids to be timed.

The kids are responsible for obtaining their ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before their race - you will need their race number to obtain the chip.

The ChampionChip Bracelet must be returned immediately after the kids cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the bracelet cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

results - age as of december 31, 2010
The kids personal results will be posted very soon after they finish the race.  Please check the results as soon as you can, to be sure they are accurate.  If  there are discrepancies, go to the Sportstats Van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct.

Remember we use the participant's age at December 31, 2010 - not their race day age - for result purposes.

Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/resultsrun.htm within 24 hours of the race and are available at RunersWeb.com.

The runners start, swim or wade, and finish in waist deep water.  The group will be divided into a swimmers wave, and a waders wave. Each wave will start separately, and if you are in the swimmers wave, you must swim the entire distance - no wading. Swimmers and waders will travel parallel to the beach until they reach the 50m buoy, where they turn and run in to shore.

They then run from the water to the Terry Fox Stadium Finish Line in their shoes (or not) which is 500m run from the beach through the park. S shirt with their number on it must be worn on the run.

volunteers
A parent or adult supervisor must accompany each participant, and may be required to assist at the event - bring a bathing suit. The Wylie Ryan Surf and Turf is a great opportunity for schools or clubs to raise some money by volunteering. It is a fun way to pick up a few hundred dollars. Email us at info@somersault.ca if your club would like us to make a donation in return for you providing 10 or more volunteers.
