The Canadian 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon Runs are a big part of “The Canadian” weekend. They are being held throughout the day so you will have to get up early for the 5K and 10K, but get to sleep in a bit if you are interested in the half marathon. The runs are held in conjunction with the Canadian Triathlon and Duathlon. This positioning allows recreational runners to join in the fun and chaos of The Canadian. It will be a blast! You will really enjoy the course which takes you along the pathway behind Mooney’s Bay Beach and into the prestigious Revelstoke area.

Somersault is proud to announce that Carefor Health & Community Services is the Official Charity of the 2016 Canadian Weekend.

Carefor is hosting a silent auction at this year’s Morning Canadian, giving you one more way to show you care. A full range of interesting items to suit everyone from the outdoors type to the social butterfly will be available. Drop by the Carefor Tent on-site on Friday and Saturday to browse and bid. All funds raised by the auction, Carefor Café, and pledges go towards helping those individuals living with Alzheimer's access our day program and Guest House. 

 

Carefor Health & Community Services is a not-for-profit organization that helps families stay together longer by enhancing independent living and supporting caregivers. Since 1897, Carefor has been providing an extensive basket of home healthcare and community support services which are tailored to meet local community needs.

The Champions Challenge & Junior Challenge program is for those of you who participate in more than one Somersault event, and who might be interested in seeing how you stack up against others in your overall, gender, and age group category, in the Somersault Event Series.

With "The Tandem Project" (formally known as Won with One) as our advisor, we are pleased to include a variety of para categories at select Somersault Events.  The para categories are: PT1, PT2, PT3, PT4, PT5 and PT OPEN.

Once you have completed your regular online entry, please email christine@somersault.ca with your confirmation number and indicate in which para category you would like to participate. Guides for blind/visually impaired athletes are provided with a race bib and a finisher’s medal at no cost.

As a courtesy to those of you who enter many Somersault events, who plan well ahead, or who are just thrifty, we have an early season entry fee discount program. The discount schedule is outlined below.

entry fee conditions
There are no refunds for any reason - this includes event cancellation or event changes. 

If you wish to switch distances within the event, there are no partial refunds if the event change request is to a less expensive event. There will be an additional charge if the change is to an event with a higher entry fee. You may use your dashboard to make these changes (up to 6:00 p.m. on the Sunday prior to the event).

There are no person to person transfers. 

Credit cards are accepted for online entries only, up to 6:00 p.m. on the Sunday PRIOR to the race.  Entries after that date, must be made at the Race Kit Pick Up time and location noted below and must be paid in cash.

entry drop off or mail in

If you do not wish to register online, you can fill out the online form (without submitting) by clicking “Enter Now” and printing it off. You may mail in or drop off to: Somersault Event Series, 1915 Sunland Drive, Ottawa, ON K4A 3T4. All dropped off or mailed in forms are subject to applicable HST plus a $5 + HST ($5.65) admin fee. Please be sure to add this to the entry fee. All cheques are to be made payable to “Somersault Event Series” and must be received a minimum of 10 days prior to the event.

student and senior discount
Students born in 1992 or later, and enrolled in school during the 2015-2016 year, receive a 10% discount on their entry fee. Please be sure to enter your school name to qualify for the student discount. Please bring valid student ID to Race Kit Pick Up.

Seniors 60+ receive a 10% discount on their entry fee.

late entries accepted on race weekend
We accept race weekend entries. After the online entry deadline has passed (the Sunday PRIOR to race day at 6:00 p.m.), participants may still enter at Race Kit Pick Up times and locations on race weekend.  The entry fees for race weekend entry are higher than the online entry deadline fee, and include a free 'Somersault Series' souvenir shirt (but not the event souvenir shirt) and while quantities last.  Late entry fees must be paid in cash. Email info@somersault.ca for entry fees and details.

You did it!  Once you finish your event and cross the finish line, you will receive your finishers’ medal!  Congratulations!

Race Winners*
The first place male and female solo winner of each race receives a merchandise prize. 
Please plan to attend the award presentations shortly after your race is over.

Top 3 Overall*
The first three overall finishers in each race - male and female - will be eligible to receive a gold, silver, or bronze lanyard, to attach to your finish medal.

Category Top 3 Finishers*
Each age category top 3 finisher, is eligible for a Gold, Silver, or Bronze 'Award Lanyard'. This 'Award Lanyard' can be attached to your finish medal and must be picked up on race day during the award presentations and then any time afterwards on race day, at the Awards Table.
*excludes Walkers, Wylie Ryan events, and Try-a-Tri events

Award Lanyard May Be Picked Up on Race Day
Check the official results to see if you finished in the top 3 in your category and then you may claim your 'Award Lanyard' at the Awards Table.

If you do not pick up your 'Award Lanyard' on race day, you may send a self-addressed, stamped envelope (regular postage one envelope/lanyard request), with a note indicating what event and lanyard you are claiming (gold, silver, or bronze), to 'Somersault', 1915 Sunland Drive, Ottawa, ON K4A 3T4, and one will be mailed to you.

souvenir t-shirt

T-shirts are unisex sizing. Click here for sizing information. If your entry is received on the Sunday prior to the event, you will receive a free event souvenir T-shirt at race kit pickup (sizes are not guaranteed). Late entrants will receive a free 'Somersault Series' souvenir shirt (while quantities last).

You are eligible for the souvenir shirt only if you attend one of the race kit pick up sessions to pick it up. If you do not pick up your race kit, you are not eligible for the souvenir t-shirt.  Please do not request a shirt after the event. 

tech shirt option
Tech shirts are sized by gender. Click here for sizing information. You can upgrade your souvenir event t-shirt to a high quality Tech T-Shirt for an extra $15, up to the online entry deadline. The Tech Shirt comes without the sponsor logos on the back so it makes a first class casual wear shirt. You are only eligible for the souvenir Tech T-Shirt if:

  • you upgrade to the Tech Shirt when entering online, and
  • you pick up your race kit by event day

official performance certificate
We are pleased to offer each race finisher, the opportunity to download and print an official certificate of their event performance, by Friday after the event. From the results page: somersault.ca/results.htm choose the 'type' of event you entered (run/tri/kids), then select the specific event distance in which you participated to access the race results as well as view the finishers certificate by clicking on the 'certificate' icon beside your name.

You can now ‘claim’ your results on the Sportstats page to gain access to your online performance certificate and any photos associated with the event.  Go to www.sportstas.ca.  Then, click on the ‘+’ sign, beside your name. You will have a choice of clicking on photo, certificate, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

SMILE … thanks to Ottawa Fit for your free, downloadable event photos.  Their support will enable you to download your Finish Line photo after the event to share with everyone to celebrate your accomplishment!  We know what a valuable souvenir your pics are so we have worked with Zoomphoto and Ottawa Fit to make this happen for you. Go to Zoomphoto.ca to check out all of the smiles from the day!

somersault iTab
You will LOVE the Somersault event finishers’ medals and can choose to complete your race day experience with a personalized iTaB add-on. The iTab allows you to put have your name and finish time engraved on a small plate which fits neatly in to the back of your finisher's medal. Click here to order your iTab after the event, or select the iTab option when you are entering online.

post race refreshments
Enjoy a banana, a granola bar, and either eLoad or Scratch brand fluid replacement after the run. We will announce in the pre-event newsletter which particular brand we will be offering on race day for this event. The Muscle MLK Team will be on hand to cheer you on to the finish and provide a Muscle MLK* and a high five! (*to those 16 years of age and older).

sportstats timing 
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races. This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip band on their ankle during the race. This race band contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.  No chip = no time.

You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip timing chip on race morning from the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their timing chip.

You must return your ChampionChip timing chip immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned.

your results (age is as of December 31, 2016)
Results will be posted shortly after you finish the race. Please check the results as soon as you can, to be sure they are accurate. If there are discrepancies, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct. Please have the Sportstats Crew make any necessary changes on site as soon as possible in order to allow for award presentations to proceed.

Results will be posted in the results section at somersault.ca/results.htm within 24 hours of the race.

The Terry Fox Athletic Facility, adjacent to Mooney's Bay Park, is the race site. It is just South of the corner of Hogsback Rd. and Riverside Dr., on Riverside Dr. The entrance to the Terry Fox Athletic Facility Parking Lot and the Mooney's Bay Parking Lot is the first driveway on the West side of Riverside Dr., South of Hogsback Rd.

Off Hogsback Rd. near the Riverside Dr. end of Hogsback Rd.
There is a limit of 180 cars in the lot. We anticipate that this lot will be full by 8:00 a.m. and exiting this lot will be slow until all bike portions of the race are complete. If you will be leaving the event earlier than that, please choose one of the other parking locations.

Terry Fox Athletic Facility Parking Lot (100)
The Terry Fox Parking Lot is off Riverside Dr., South of Hogsback Rd. The entrance to the Terry Fox Facility Parking Lot is managed by an attendant and will in all likelihood be full with early morning triathlon participants.  Please see below for alternate parking suggestions.

Mooney's Bay Park Parking Lot 
The Mooney's Bay Parking Lot, is off Riverside Dr. at the same exit as the Terry Fox Athletic Facility, but it is a metered lot, and you are responsible to feed the meters. The meters take loonies and/or toonies only, and you are responsible for paying the proper amount.


Alternative Parking Lots 

In addition to the above lots, you can park in many of the lots along Brookfield Dr. which meets Riverside Dr. at the Hogsback Rd. corner. These lots are very convenient to the event site (about a 5 minute walk) and some are free.  Please obey parking/no parking/cost signs, or suffer the consequences. Park at your own risk.


There Will Be No Access to Riverside Dr. from Prince of Wales Dr.

Please do not attempt to enter Hogsback Rd. from Prince of Wales Dr. on race morning. You will be unable to do so, because Hogsback Rd. will be closed. Access to parking lots on Hogsback Rd. and the race site are from Riverside Dr. only.

5Km & 10Km Course Description
The Start line is in Mooney’s Bay Park – just a short walk down the ‘service’ road behind the bleachers at the Terry Fox Stadium and to the right (north) when you get to the cross path in the park – look for the green “START” flag and signage to the NEW start line.  Runners follow the paved recreational pathway through Mooney's Bay Park to Riverside Dr. They run along Riverside Dr. and Revelstoke Dr. The 5Km Run Turn Around is at the 2.5Km point on this course.  The 10Km Run is a double out and back run to the 5Km Turn Around point on Revelstoke Dr. while their turn to go out for the second loop is inside the stadium just before the finish line. 

Half Marathon Course Description
The Start line is in Mooney’s Bay Park – just a short walk down the ‘service’ road behind the bleachers at the Terry Fox Stadium and to the right (north) when you get to the cross path in the park – look for the green “START” flag and signage to the NEW start line.  Runners follow the paved recreational pathway through Mooney's Bay Park to Riverside Dr. They run along Riverside Dr. and then Revelstoke Dr. to the Turn Around point which is on Revelstoke Dr.  They then run into to the stadium to ‘just before’ the Finish Line turn on the same course, to complete 1 lap of the course. The Half Marathon consists of 4 complete laps of this course

Clubs, teams and non-profit organizations are invited to inquire about our volunteer donation program - a donation in return for a group of members volunteering for the day.

We will email the latest news updates to participants prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one. 

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
